Colonial heritage:

For around a century, the geographic area of present-day Pakistan was under occupation of the British Empire. Today, many buildings, monuments, infrastructural projects, and institutions of Pakistan carry a tremendous colonial legacy.

This heritage includes the institutions of the Pakistani army and Pakistani Civil bureaucracy, both of which are structured on the lines of the colonial military and bureaucratic administration. In fact, it is often suggested that the reason the Pakistan Army is deeply involved in politics is the legacy of the British Raj; which used the military as a key tool in managing affairs of the state.

The Victorian architecture to be found in Pakistan today covers everything from houses, monuments, educational institutions, churches, government buildings, the railway system, and bridges.

Pakistan?s colonial heritage is definitely worth seeing for all sorts of holiday-makers, and those interested in history. Images of some of the main sites that represent Pakistan?s colonial legacy can be browsed below.
